Comets 51 vs Wimbledon 51
Saturday 20th September 2025
Comets started strongly in the opening minutes, settling quickly into their rhythm. Both teams worked hard to score from their own centre passes, and it was clear from the outset that this was going to be a close contest. With sharp shooting at both ends and some determined mid-court play, Comets managed to edge Wimbledon slightly to take the first quarter 13–11.
Going into the second quarter, the pace of the game intensified. Comets continued to show patience in their build-up, with the attacking unit working well to position around the circle and feed the shooters accurately. Wimbledon matched the pressure and found their flow, forcing errors and keeping the score line tight. The battle for possession was evenly matched, and at half-time the scores were level at 25–25, showing just how close the game was.
In the third quarter, the defensive unit turned over some crucial balls and the attack converted efficiently, allowing Comets to push ahead and take the quarter 15–7. The communication and teamwork across the squad was spot on, and Comets went into the final break with a strong 40–32 lead.
The final quarter saw Wimbledon come out firing, determined not to let the game slip away. They put Comets under consistent pressure and capitalised on every opportunity, gradually closing the gap. Despite Comets working hard to maintain their lead, Wimbledon’s fightback was relentless. The last few minutes were nail-biting, with both teams giving everything. At the final whistle, the score was locked at 51–51.
A huge well done to the whole squad for their hard work, and teamwork throughout the game. Congratulations to our opposition’s player of the match Zoe Perrin and players’ player Bronwyn Price.
